People with a little extra time on their hands will be able to enjoy the wild Alpine Rhine and Lake Constance as well as the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen and the romantic High Rhine.The Swiss Alpen Rhine connects the mountains of Graubünden with Lake Constance. From Chur you will have the opportunity to discover the 400 m deep Ruinalta Schlucht ("Ruinalta Ravine"), which is an impressive landscape formed by the Vorderrhein. Cycling through the lively university town of St. Gallen, you will arrive in Constance and meet the Rhine once more which flows here into Lake Constance.
Along the Rhine to Altstätten and from there by rack railway to Gais in the Appenzell region. You cycle along picture-book mountain pastures with happy cows to St. Gallen.
Downhill to Arbon where you reach Lake Constance. You cycle through the Canton of Thurgau with its huge apple orchards. The route takes you through small villages to Constance.
First highlight is the visit of the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen. On your way to Waldshut-Tiengen you will be delighted by the Rheinau monastery, picturesquely located on an island.
You cycle further on downstream, via Laufenburg to Bad Säckingen, where you'll find Europe's longest wooden, roofed bridge. Have a stop here - there are two very special museums you can visit: The Müllmuseum (garbage museum) and a museum about the famous "Trumpeter from Bad Säckingen". Following the northern bank of the Rhine, you cycle on to Rheinfelden. To shorten the route you can board a train here (not included). Should you decide to continue by bike, a visit to the Roman fort Augusta Raurica.
