It still exists, the other Majorca: picturesque, tranquil bays with turquoise-blue water and fine, white sand; A festival of colours, shapes, and the scents of flowering meadows among countless almond trees; Monasteries and pilgrimage churches; Castles, mysterious flowstone caves, and romantic country houses in the sun – jewels in the unspoilt hinterland far away from the tourist crowds. The plains and gently rolling hills of the interior of the island and its east coast offer a great climate and are ideal for biking tours. On your way, you will cycle past small sandy bays and cliffs overgrown by pine trees as well as past wind mills, olive groves, and almond trees.
First, you will ride your bicycle via Sant Llorenc (church Santa Maria del Bellver from the 13th century) and through the picturesque hinterland of the island. Wonderful paths will lead you to Artà. Numerous alleys lead up to the hill on which the town was built. From the pilgrimage church Sant Salvador you will be able to enjoy a unique panoramic view of the surrounding coastline, the hills, the almond orchards and olive groves. On your way back, you will soon get to the coast and your hotel.
On your way, you will get to Son Carrio, where you should taste Ensaimades, “the lightest, softest, and most delicious pastry of the Balearic Island”. Refreshed, you will enjoy cycling over the gently rolling hills to Manacor and you will still have enough time to visit Majorca’s centre of artificial pearl production. On your way back to the hotel, you will find yourself on quiet ways which are easy to cycle.
On the fourth day, a short stage will lead you along the coast to the beautiful viewpoint Cap des Pinar. Here you will have a wonderful view of the bays of Cala Bona and Cala Millor. On your way back, cosy cafes in small ports invite you to stay. For sure, the fishermen, who are spending their afternoons there, have one or the other adventurous story to tell.
Today, no bike ride is on the agenda. We recommend a short hike/walk to the Punta de n’Amer, a 2 km long peninsula and nature reserve close to the hotel. Besides enjoying the Mediterranean flora and fauna, you can visit the defence tower Es Castell de sa Punta de n'Amer and the cave Cova de ses Crestes (a former cave dwelling).
The day starts with a relaxed bike ride to Capdepera with its triangular fortress and fortification wall that can be walked on. Then you will continue your trip on side roads with little traffic to Canyamel and to the caves of Artà. The impressive entrance, located about 50 metres above the sea, leads to Majorca’s largest flowstone cave. Your way back will lead to the defence tower Torre del Canyamel and past olive groves to your hotel.
On beautifully landscaped bike paths, you will cycle through the interior of the island to the viewpoint Punta de s’Estany with a marvellous view of the coast and sea. Then, you will continue your journey along the cliffs into the natural bay and harbour Porto Cristo with an interesting old town and the famous Dragon Caves, which extend over 1,700 metres. Before you return to your hotel, you should jump into the water, which was awarded with the “Blue Flag” for excellent water quality.
