The countryside above the Danube is presenting itself like a picture book. Beautiful River landscapes, broad fields and meadows and romantic lakes in a rich cultural landscape. You should get to know the beauty of this countryside. There is a lot to see: smelling meadows where hay is drying, red apples on the trees and golden grain fields. With every kilometre you get to know the character of Upper Austria better and better. This region is attractive and different. The Danube valley is picturesque, Eferdinger basin is rank and full of pleasure and the Salzkammergut region offers a lot of lakes. Picture book landscapes, ideal for cycling. Sweet dishes which want to be tasted. Culture to experience. You will experience Germany’s southern-most neighbour as tasteful as never before.

The city is awaiting you with its three rivers, wonderful squares and romantic waterside. How about a boat tour?

You leave Passau along the river which is winding itself picturesque through the Danube valley. You cycle along historic fortress ruins on to the Danube loop, which is a great nature spectacle. The river is changing its direction several times due to the keen granite to continue to the fructuous Eferdinger basin.

From the country side to the city as industrial city Linz with its cultural diversity is just a few kilometres away. And with the city the second breakfast with Linzertorte and coffee is awaiting you. Afterwards you reach new natural scenery. River Traun is accompanying you now. You continue along the river through green lowlands. Enjoy the scenery while your feet are doing the work. Take deep breathes and let loose. Through slightly hilly terrain you reach exhibition city Wels.

The south is calling. We do not mean Italy by that, we mean the south of Upper Austria, which is not less attractive. Fructuous fields and blooming meadows in-between a rich cultural landscape. Slightly above river Traun, Benedictine abbey Lambach, the spiritual centre of the region is located. Gmunden shows itself kitschy and beautiful with its legendary palace Ort. After a refreshing tour along the lake you reach Ebensee. And within the next kilometres the majestic cultural highlight of today is reached: Bad Ischl with Emperor Franz and his wife Sissi.

You leave Bad Ischl to continue to the lakes! Idyllic is beautiful St. Wolfgang located on the northern banks of lake Wolfgangsee. You can shorten the tour by going by boat across the lake, of course you can also cycle along the lake. We do not recommend swimming across the lake, but you will enough possibilities to take a bath. You continue to St. Gilgen and Mondsee before you reach St. Georgen, located on Lake Attersee.

Along the Römer bike path to lively Frankenmarkt. You should look back to enjoy the beautiful panorama of the mountains which are a great contrast to the green landscape. You continue thorugh picturesque Redlbach. The impressions are intensive. Fortress Kobernaußerwald is awaiting you, where you will be rewarded with a descent along beautiful serpentines. Along a shorter or longer route – it’s up to you – to Ried.

Along Antiesen bike path through beautiful landscape to river Inn. Through the Inn lowlands on to the baroque city of Schärding with its numerous cafes. You should plan a stop to enjoy a pastry, after all you should get to know the tasting aspect of Upper Austria as well. Adventurous cyclists cross the river to continue through forests to Passau. Or you cycle along a towpath via Wernstein back to Passau.

With your arrival in Passau the colourful picture book is finished. What a pity, time was too short.
