Mozart cycle path, 8 days

On the traces of Wolfgang Amadeus.

The Magic Flute might sound. Or the Little Night Music will golden your evening hours. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart accompanies you on this journey. Wherever you look, his family has left many traces. The city of Salzburg would be completely different without its most important son. His house of birth, the house where he lived and the Mozart statue testify to his presence also in modern times. Mozart is everywhere, and can be heard in all the streets. If you are cycling relaxed and without pressure, the lovely landscape will also influence you. Put yourself in his musical genius and follow his paths! The Route will lead you from Lake Chiemsee to the Inntal valley. From here you will pass the northern Tirol and the little German corner back to Mozart’s home town – Salzburg.

Tour of Salzburg in Mozart’s footsteps: birth place, place of residence, Mozart statue, Waagplatz, confectionary Fürst, Café Tomaselli, cathedral.

Along the river Salzach to Oberndorf (birth place of “Silent Night, Holy Night”). You cross the Austrian / Bavarian border to Laufen, from there on to Lake Waginger See. You bike along the river Traun to the capital of Chiemgau, Traunstein (salt works district, town tower and brewery). Your overnight is in the surroundings or Chieming or in Traunstein.

You cycle from Chieming via Seebruck to Seeon where Mozart visited the monastery several times. From Seeon you go back to Lake Chiemsee and on to Breitbrunn. Via Amerang you reach Wasserburg where Mozart stayed several times during his travels.

Stroll through the lovely city of Wasserburg which is nearly trapped by the river Inn. Today you follow the river Inn until Kufstein, “pearl of Tyrol”. Enjoy this really stress less path via Rosenheim to Tyrol.

You continue your tour along the river Inn. Afterwards you cycle the hilly route via Ebbs, Walchsee, Waidach and Kössen through the imposing Tyrolean landscape to Kirchdorf or St. Johann.

Today you cycle to Waidring and Lofer. Both places were stations on Mozart´s travels. From Lofer you cycle along the river Saalach on a romantic bike path via Unken and Schneizlreuth to Bad Reichenhall. Mozart stayed in Bad Reichenhall on his last stopover in Salzburg in 1780. Your overnight is in Bad Reichenhall or Bayerisch Gmain.

Berchtesgaden would be a good place to make a break, after you cycle back to Salzburg

Tour character

The route is flat and slightly hilly, some steeper ascents and descents. Usually well-built bike and field paths; short distances on side roads and twice also on the main road (not longer than 1-2 km).
